The timbers for our post and beam house are cut from locally harvested Douglas Fir. One of our neighbors has a portable saw mill and is doing the cutting.
Here is Bob and his sawmill with 2 very nice rafter plates we just cut.
Overall we will cut more than 7200 board feet of Doug Fir. Currently (Jan 2025) about 60% of the timbers have been cut and are drying under some tarps for the winter.
In the spring we will finish up cutting timbers and will hire a lumber grader to come grade these beams. This is a requirement of both the County Planning Commission and Insurance Companies. Plus it is a good idea.

This is just one of the stacks of timbers. The largest beams are 8″ x 12″ and 20′ long. Our little Kubota tractor has a hard time lifting just 1 of these beg beams. It would do better if I put a lighter set of forks on the bucket. Or get a real fork attachment.
