Barndominium – Something New, Something Old

Our old house will get us by for this winter and perhaps the next. We have been fixing it up to make it habitable but knowing all the while that it would need to be torn down. See https://buddingvineyards.com/the-old-house/ for some of the details.

Long term we plan on building a new Barn House and have been looking at plans for a while. The basic specs are about 1800 Sq Ft, 2 stories with 3 bedrooms. An open to the roof in the main living area and a largish kitchen. Options a include a basement garage and workspace.

Choices, choices, choices.

The Snoqualmie Lodge by Yankee Barn Homes come closest to what we are looking for. The cost to complete is much greater than what we are planning for and we do not need any of the bells and whistles. Of course a sauna would be nice!

The basic floorplan ticks all our boxes and just looks nice. Open and spacious.

Comfort and bright.

Another choice is the Timberline Homes Hayden – perhaps adapted to become 2 stories.

We do live in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area which means that there are many, many rules that limit permitting and building. And thus add an additional year to the time it takes to build your new home.
